Aether & Hemera logo

Two metre high letters spelling HOPE radiate as a beacon created from bands of LED light. The self-standing three-dimensional geometric shapes cast complex luminous forms in the immediate surroundings while different voices will evoke the stories of local people during the war, creating an immersive emotional landscape.

HOPE installation will uncover emotional perceptions, embodying them in a different medium, to engage with the viewers and induce feelings of connective human experiences.

Commissioned by Durham County Council and curated by Lucy Jenkins, to commemorate WWI centenary.

Exhibited in Millennium Place from Friday, November 9 to Thursday, November 15.

Special thanks to Gill Parkes from Durham Record Office; actors Jim Kitson, Stan Hodgson, Louise Dearden and Shelley O’Brien; East Wing Recording Studio; LED Ltd lights; Nick James for the wooden work; and Ricardo Lopes for the metal work.
