Voyage (Scottsdale)
November 2013 by Aether & Hemera

=============

Aether & Hemera studio was commissioned to create an innovative installation for the Canal Convergenceart event, 7 -18 November 2013, Scottsdale, Arizona, US.. The aim of the project was to foster community engagement and creatively transform the waterfront, expanding the physical space of the canal. The brief focused on inspiring people to think creatively about the spaces around them and inviting playful and social engagement in public space.

The installation consisted of three hundred floating paper boats covering an area of 1000 square meters; each boat is 60 cm long, 27 cm wide and 21 cm high.

The idea is that paper boats take us in voyages through childhood memories, wishes and imaginings. The fleet composes an organic matrix of interactive lights activated by people through their mobile phones. Lights behaviour responds to the public embodying the interaction, encouraging collective involvement and creating aesthetic experiences that are sensitive to individual and social behaviours.
